Hezbollah, Syria and Iran Plan Takeover of Lebanon--Do You Trust the Democrats to Stop Them?

This man wants to take over Lebanon. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said yesterday that there is "mounting evidence" that Syria, Iran and Hezbollah "are preparing plans to topple Lebanon's democratically elected government." As reported here by AP:

"Hezbollah has 11 legislators in Parliament and has been increasingly aggressive in its political plays. The threat Tuesday from its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, racheted up tensions between pro-Syrian and pro-Western groups.

"Nasrallah warned of street protests if Prime Minister Fuad Saniora did not accept his group's demands for a "national unity" Cabinet, in which Hezbollah and its allies would have a veto on key decisions. Nasrallah set a deadline of Nov. 13."

The threats from Nasrallah are just one symptom of the crisis brewing in Lebanon. Although Prime Minister Saniora has denied Israel's claims that Syria is rearming Hezbollah, now even the U.N. admits that Israel is correct. The AP story relates that U.N. envoy Terje Roed-Larsen said he was told by Lebanese officials that arms were still flowing from Syria to Lebanon in violation of a U.N. embargo.

The fact that Hezbollah is both rearming and rebuilding its fortifications in South Lebanon despite the presence of Lebanese Army and UN troops should come as no surprise. Israel National News reports that the German newspaper Der Spiegel discovered that the UNIFIL forces do not patrol at night, leaving Hezbollah militias free to work without interference at rebuiding its infrastructure.

Also in the news, Iran test-fired dozens of new missiles today, including the Shahab 3, which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and hitting Israel or, for that matter, U.S. positions in Iraq.
