For All Those Currently Crushing on Fred Thompson
You should read this George Will column.
I like Fred Thompson, and would vote for him with a smile and in a second if he were the nominee. But, but . . . prudence dictates that we take a hard look here, folks. George Will is no oracle, but he raises a lot of the same questions I've wondered about:
- One of four senators to endorse John McCain, and co-chair of McCain's 2000 campaign?
- Voted for McCain-Feingold?
- Howard Baker's protege?

And a solid Pro-Choice Republican. It's been amusing to me to see the Social Cons rally to Fred's side. Are they entirely ignorant of his political background on abortion? Fred was aligned with the libertarians and Moderates in TN GOP politics in the 1990s against the Religious Right.
We libertarian Republicans supported him PRECISELY because he was Pro-Choice.
I've got an interview from July 1994 in REPUBLICAN LIBERTY where he states clearly that he is Pro-Choice. (You can see the excerpt with the quote over at my blog at www.libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com)
I'm very happy with Fred Thompson. If he's the Nominee I'll support him 100%, even though I'm currently supporting Rudy.
Shows how far we've come from the 1980s and '90s when the Religious Right controlled the Party with an Iron Hammer, to 2007 where we have TWO LIBERTARIAN REPUBLICANS AS FRONTRUNNERS FOR THE GOP NOMINATION: Fred & Rudy!!
