"Illegal Amigos," John Roberts' Heart, And Harry Reid's Brain
Leaving aside the question whether a Supreme Court justice should consult his heart in interpreting the law, this is pretty funny. "Illegal amigos," aside from having a nice alliterative feel to it, is simply a turn of phrase. That Reid is willing to reach this far in order to raise questions about Roberts' sensitivity shows the difficulty of the Democrats' task in opposing Roberts. If then-junior lawyer Roberts had been writing a memo about trade barriers involving the French or Germans and had referred to "obstructionist amis" or "fractious freunden," would that have been insensitive or simply clever use of the language?
My title above refers obliquely to the size of Harry Reid's brain. Well, he's not dumb, even though his comment is. Reid is a smart man, which is why the sleazy race-baiting he engages in here is so disappointing. But not surprising.

It is telling that even the Washington Post, of all places, believes that Reid's position on the Roberts confirmation is wrong-headed. WaPo Editorial: Words that Will Haunt
Reid's comments about Roberts qualifications contrast so sharply with his vote decision that it is clear that for Harry Reid, like his predecessor Daschle, it is only about power politics (except that Daschle would have had the sense not to make the nice comments before the apparently inconsistent slam.

The size of a man's heart - brain? Surely Reid is the man behind the curtain and this is OZ. And the wicked witch was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
Never before in history have so many (as our left does)talk about having heart and compassion and caring while blaming this man for lacking it, because they fear he might stop their execution of 40 million plus innocent lives. Heart indeed - this bunch would rip his out if they thought there was political gain to be made from it!
