Distinguished Center-Right Blogs Continue Slipping

Here's a challenge for you: Go read this post at Power Line. Then ask yourself:

(a) On what evidence does Scott Johnson rely to draw his conclusions?

(b) Does he really have any evidence at all, or only the speculations of an anonymous former White House insider who doesn't know anything about the Miers nomination, but has only fragments of information, based on which the insider offers clear speculation?

(c) Why on earth does a responsible, thoughtful blog like Power Line engage in this sort of reckless publishing? Is this not beneath your expectations of that fine blog?

(d) Could it be that I am right in my post immediately below, that disappointment in the Miers pick has led to emotional reasoning that seeks a to reach a conclusion based on the flimsiest of evidence?

I hate to say it, but after the Miers fiasco I am going to regard many distinguished center-right blogs with deserved skepticism. This is both surprising and disappointing.

I also go to the Powerline Blog and have read their views. I must say, they do have good arguments and discussion points.

It is my humble opinion, however, that not all Powerline Blog posters are created equal. Scott Johnson is coming across as a reckless hack who uses innuendo and subjective interpretations regarding quotes originating from third-party sources. He is making too big of a leap with this whole thing regarding which Justices that Harriet Miers admires and her qualifications to be a Justice.

I agree with you that this nomination has truly revealed the various factions of our great party.

You're right. Hinderaker is always solid and responsible. I am beginning to wonder about Johnson. Mirengoff-- I don't know yet. He has an elitist streak. We see this in long-time Washington, D.C. people.
