Choosing The News
Just heard the 10:00 a.m. (Pacific time) ABC News broadcast on my car radio. The two top stories? First, Katrina evacuees in Houston are confused about getting debit cards from FEMA. Second, while Vice President Cheney was somewhere in the disaster area, answering reporters' questions, someone in the audience shouted an expletive at Cheney three times. (All three shouts were played, with appropriate "bleeping.")
I kid you not. That was the news as reported by the venerable American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.

Dishearteningly not surprising given the current state of things.
I have a pleasant anecdote, from a positive direction, involving an ABC News reporter I heard on the local affiliate of ABC yesterday morning. I cannot remember the reporters' name, but the local talking heads were asking her about all the finger pointing and Hillary's call for a Commission, in particular. the likelihood that the head of FEMA can hold his job, etc. Much to my surprise, she said "Obviously, Hillary and the Democrats are trying very hard to protect the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and Governor of Louisiana." Obviously didn't have to go through the careful "editing" that top of the hour reports are subjected to, I guess. It was a brief shining moment of candor from an unexpected source!

I have to comment on this ABC News bit- no matter where I've stood politically I have always bristled at the controlling nature of the administration’s public appearances- seeing one that is unscripted and live is refreshing and rare.
I saw this clip and I think it showed that Cheney was there, concerned about the disasters (political and natural)- it also showed the frustration and anger in an honest and unfiltered way.
Contrast this to the cut-off move that Lynne Cheney made on Fox later in the day when the questions strayed from the talking points.
