Yet Another One

Remember how, in the 1992 election, George H. W. Bush was astonished by a supermarket scanner, and the whole episode ended up making him seem out of touch? I do too.

Except it never happened, and the press keep reporting it as if it did happen. Just another interesting example of how we can be programmed if we are not paying very close attention.

Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, tells the story here. Query: Could such a thing have happened in the modern internet era? Well, I don't think so.
